Virginia has sacrificed enough for the data center industry.
No more.
We're neighbors, farmers, and parents from across the Commonwealth, and we've joined forces. Together, we're calling for a moratorium on new data center construction in Virginia.
Our Demand
Hit Pause Now.
Grassroots communities across Virginia are calling for a statewide moratorium on new data center approvals: no new rezonings, no new special exceptions, no new permits.
The pause should last until Virginia can prove it has protected our water supply, our power grid, and the families paying the bills. Not after more data centers are built. Before.
We're not asking for another framework, another study, or another round of incentives. We're asking our leaders to stop digging the hole deeper while we figure out how to get out of it.
Who We Are
Grassroots. Statewide. United.
We're not a lobbying firm or an industry group. We're the people who live next to these projects, and we've been fighting them county by county, at planning commission meetings and board hearings, all on our own.
But now we’re fighting together.
Stop Virginia Data Centers is a coalition of grassroots groups from Hanover to Southwest Virginia, from Spotsylvania to Dinwiddie (and a whole lot of others in between).
Each of us started with one project in our own backyard. We learned that the fight is the same everywhere: the same developers, the same promises, the same costs passed on to residents. We know that together we’re stronger.
Our Water
Data centers use enormous volumes of water for cooling, drawing down the aquifers and rivers our homes and farms depend on.
We’re Fighting For:
Our Power Bills
New plants and transmission lines get built to feed this industry, & residents absorb the cost.
Our Land
High-voltage transmission corridors are being cut through backyards, farms, & rural communities.
Our Peace & Quiet
Cooling fans and diesel backup generators run around the clock, bringing constant noise & air pollution to those who live next door.
